Billed as the
"Italian
Lake tourists haven't discovered", this marquetry piece shows a
scene from the village of Orta, Italy.
This piece is reproduced with kind permission off Peter White of the
Meopham Group, in England. Peter visited Italy on a vacation. He
emailed me this photograph on his return. Beautiful place.
This piece took about 3 weeks to complete. It was sanded
initially with 120 grit to flatten it. Then 5 coats of sanding
sealer were applied with each coat being sanded with wet and dry 600
grit until dead flat. 3 coats of gloss wipe on polyurethane. The 4th
coat Satin Poly wipe on and the last back to gloss. This mix seems
to give a really nice semi glass, but not satin finish. This last
coat was 'swished' gently with 1500 grit sand paper ever so lightly
going both lengthwise and across. I like this finish affect that
this apparently gives. I have not tried this on larger pieces.
This is a miniature and measures only 2.9" (7.4cm) x 3.9" (9.9cm). It is 100%
scalpel cut.
