Pentaptych of Scarborough Harbour, Yorkshire.
as published on page 18-20 in the American Marquetry Magazine, Fall 2019
and on pages 14-16 in The Marquetarian, Winter 2019 (UK)
size: overall is 31" (78.74cm) x 18" (45.72cm)
This was my attempt at making a Marquetry Pentaptych rendition of Scarborough Harbour in Yorkshire, England.
There are many mistakes but I think the idea is there and it represents itself nicely as a 5 panel Marquetry wall mount.
I started by taking photograph of the Harbour and dividing it into 5 panels also adjusting the height af each panel to fit the 5 Panel Wall mount theme.
After making the 5 separate panels it was then time to cut them square making sure that I cut out a 3/8" gap between each panel. The rest is marquetarian normal practice.
Many things went wrong:
1.  I did not want to overuse fragmentation for the many trees originally in the background so I put in the field.
2. The field looked too bare and lonely so I added a stone wall.
3. The stone wall was so small it rendered itself into insignificance. So I enlarged the wall and now it looks way out of proportion. My take on that is to pretend it was taken by a BIG telephoto lens. ha! ha!.
Just a bit of Artistic license eh?

OK the center panel size is 18" (45.72cm) x 5-3/4" (14.60cm)
The two inner side panels: 12-1/2" (31.75cm) x 5-3/4" (14.60 cm)
The outer panels: 8-1/4" (20.95 cm) x 5-3/4" (14.60cm)

All panels sanded to 600 grit then 5 coats of sanding sealer applied. Finally 2 coats of wipe-on gloss Polyurethane.
All panels 100% cut with a Scalpel.
