A 1/4"MDF box sporting a sand shaded Walnut weave
overlay on a Maple background. This was matched on the top and all four sides. The inside structure is made with 1/8" balsamic birch, painted mat black. It has small earth magnets inset under all edge veneered sides instead of using hinges. The top is indexed to key the top to the bottom. In this case the box lid fits either way but if not two of the magnets could be reversed to polarize the top and bottom. It has 5 coats of sanding sealer sanded to 600 grit and 2 coats of polyurethane gloss wipe-on. It was finished with Renaissance Wax polish.  |
